The Art Around Nu Metal
One thing that has always been important to us here at Hialeah is employing our friends and artist we like for work. Artists surround us and how lucky are we to be able to do projects with some of the coolest, smartest and most interesting people? Nu Metal is no different.
Each drop we have to have a direction and theme and normally that comes in all different ways. I was thinking of doing something that was more on the rock and roll vibes or edgier from my lens. I really wanted to pull away from "cute" and go for what I thought was cool so I put out a public call on our Instagram for artists to vibe out our logo and see where that goes. Hold here....
Simultaneously, I was following kid who was making the fucking coolest weirdo creature people. This "kid" happened to be Jamison, the son of Jen Fucking Woolf. Yeah, I howled. She's a friend and I already knew this guy was raised on some serious art influence and probably already had an interesting perspective and probably will blow up up in art in some capacity one day and I just had to work with him. I asked him to make us something and he made who I call "Juice" our Nu Metal mascot (Orange headed sad boy old school stoner kid almost) if you will. Jamison just keeps creating these absolute horror show things that are so dope and so oddly refreshing. You have to just go follow, work with him, watch him create, it's a vibe. @rainbowkitten
Unpause where we left off, Finn!!! Answered the public call in the most perfect way with a logo that was KILLER and fit so beautifully into the overall feeling I personally was leaning towards. How Finn landed on these insane smokey waves or bubble things when we kept on with this vein with him and asked for more is crazy. Weird because I went off the rails with bubbles for some reason. But we know now it's because it was meant to be because here comes Finn killing us with this design that is so perfect and so cool and we are so in love with it. The logo was a hit. Working with Finn is incredibly easy because he's just talented in this design arena. How someone can have multiple talents is beyond me because I'm still struggling with one but imagine being a great piercer AND be able to understand design and understanding color ways and how to place them and all that stuff...wild. What a gift Finn was to this drop. All the jewelry cards, boxes, and stickers have Finn's design. He made this drop really. @finnthepiercer
As if we didn't already have the most bangerest artists working unknowingly together on this drop with us we then hit up Bryan Hempstead who is so fucking talented I don't know how to describe all that he does or knows how to do. We have followed him for a while just from seeing his other work and asking "OMG who did that?" We just asked him to make a video for us but I saw him make a lamp also. Can you make a lamp? Right, so, he made our promo videos. Hit the nail so on the head that we almost had to do nothing other than give him a couple points and really thats it. He sent us back the coolest clips for use. That to me is so valuable to have someone who can see your perspective and help you convey those feelings you can't. Made the entire drop all come together in the most fun and creative way. The videos Bryan made just really get me excited and that's a lot for someone who's been staring at this jewelry for months. @bryanhempstead
The best part about these three people is that YOU can employ them too! Commission them for work! They all are creating right now. Give them a follow, like their stuff and also use this blog as encouragement to work with actual people and not robots.
